Photo appears to be one of the Wee Vee's sister ships - either the USS Colorado (BB-45) or USS Maryland (BB-46)
Contributed by Edward Leyendecker 2/22/2004 - This photo is the USS Colorado (BB45) being
mothballed at Puget Sound Navy Yard in 1946. You can see that her 40mm A.A.
guns are still useable and uncovered and this is what dates the photo.
Identifying the ship comes from her secondary armament of 5"/25 open mounts
and 5"/51 casemated guns. Her sister ship, USS Maryland (BB46), was rebuilt
with 5"/38 twin mounts in the summer of 1945. This is the key to her
identity. |
