USS West Virginia Veteran

Welborn Lee Ashby was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.  He was the first war casualty in Ohio County, Kentucky and the American Legion post in Centertown, KY is named for him.  His body was not identified at the time of the attack and he was buried in an unnamed grave.  In February 2009, his remains were identified with the help of DNA from his sister Martha.
