"7/30/36: Commended at mast by the Captain for alertness and prompt action in jumping from Ferry Dock at town of Fletchers Bay on Port Orchard Inlet, Washington, on 25 July 1936, and saving life of a six year old girl, Sally Welfare who could not swim, who had fallen through the dock into about fifteen feet of water."
