Edward Mead was from North Dakota and he was 17 years old when he joined the navy. He was stationed on the USS West Virginia when it went down in Pearl Harbor. From there he went to the USS Portland.  He spent 8 years in the navy.  After the war, he went to work at Keyport Washington as head of rail road maintenance. He was there for 31 years until he retired in 1975. He was married and his wife was bedridden for the last few years. She passed away in 1991. He was the oldest of 6 children his brothers Dave and Ben and his sisters Alberta and Dorothy predeceased him. His youngest brother is King Anderson of California. In 2004 my uncle came and lived with me and my children. In December of 2007 he went into the hospital and in March of 2008 I got him into the veterans home in Port Orchard, Washington. He passed away on August 31, 2008.
