William B. Avril Sea.2c USN USS West Virginia 1944-1945 |
Mr. Mullins,
I'm not sure if I have e-mailed you before about this, but anyway. My
grandfather served on the West Virginia from early 1944 through late
1945, his name was William Avril. I have a lot of his records that I
obtained from St Louis (I think) and some group photos, but they have no
identification on them so I'm not really sure what group they are. He
died in 1972 and never really talked about those days with anyone. I was
only 4 when he died so I never got to talk to him about his time in WWII
on the West Virginia. Is there anyway to find out if anyone is still
living that knew or remembers him, he worked with the radar on the West
Virginia. The only thing my mother said he ever told her was the time a
kamikazee plane crashed into the West Virginia, but that was about it.
Thank you for any help and if I can help you in any way please ask!
