Irvin Arthur Syring was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 23, 1926. He enlisted oin the navy on March 21, 1944 and arrived at NTS in Farragut, ID on March 23, 1944. He left Farragut as a S2C, had a short leave in St. Paul, and arrived in Bremerton on May 22 and reported aboard the West Virginia May 24 where he was assigned to the second division. He was promoted to S1C November 1, 1944. He participated in the Leyte operation, the Luzon operation, Iwo Jima operation, Okinawa Gunto operation, and the Phillipine Liberation. He passed away on May 30, 1999.
