Lonnie G. Laws, born in Avery County, NC, and entered the USN Oct. 21, 1943. After spending six weeks at Great Lakes Training Station, he went aboard the USS West Virginia at Bremerton, WA, where he spent several months while the ship was being renovated.

After leaving Bremerton, they went to the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Luzon and Okinawa. Memorable experience was going
into Tokyo Bay while they were signing the peace agreement.

He returned to the States and was discharged Nov. 9, 1945. He was employed with Tennessee Eastman Kodak Company, Kingsport, TN, where he retired Feb. 1, 1979.
