Richard Lee Fuqua, Chief Yeoman, born Sept. 2, 1917, Peru, IN. Enlisted in the USNR Dec. 7, 1939 while a student at Marshall College. Called to active duty Aug. 15, 1940 and reported aboard the USS West Virginia, San Diego, CA. He was S 1/c Radio Div. during Pearl Harbor attack.

After attack went to USS Monaghan (DD-354) and served during first Marshall Gilbert Raid, Coral Sea and Midway. Returned to the States for new construction, assigned to USS Taylor, after invasion of Africa transferred to COMLANTFLT SUBCOM for five months training in personnel assignment. Transferred to COMNAVEV FLAL as enlisted personnel yeoman. During Europe invasion, he served temporarily COMNAVFORFRAN USS Augusta. Returned to COMNAVED until his discharge as chief yeoman at Bainbridge, MD, on Aug. 30, 1945. Awards/Medals: Unit Citation and for invasion of Europe.

He and Betty have been married since Oct. 12, 1947, and have two children and four grandchildren. They live in Houston, TX, and he is owner of Fuqua Ins. Agency.
