My uncle told me recently of the initiation that takes place on the ship when it crosses the equator. He laughed and told me that no one was safe (meaning the officers too). I have looked at the certificate for years and didn't really know what I was looking at. I took it down and read it for the first time. I am 27 years old and having been staying with them all of my life. My uncle served aboard the ship during WWII. He showed me the crew picture that they took when they docked. And I asked him was that everyone and he told me no; because someone had to aboard the ship. He looks like a kid again when he talks of serving aboard her. My uncle will be 80 in November. My aunt and uncle just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. If anyone remembers my uncle please email me at jtaylor1176@yahoo.com. I will be going to Texas in November for Thanksgiving.
