My maternal uncle, Werner K. Bauer, was an Ensign aboard Wee Vee during the Pearl Harbor attack. He now lives in the St. Louis area. He has never spoken to me much about his experiences, and in deference to his feelings I no longer ask him. If I am not mistaken I think he may be the "Bauer" referred to in paragraph 10 of George M. Hunter's (no relation to me) war diary linked to this site. All I know is that after the attack he stayed aboard fighting fires until the order to Abandon Ship was given, dove overboard, swam ashore, was treated for exhasution and served the remainder of the war on a series of 4 submarines. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knew my uncle - I just pray that I'm not violating his privacy by asking this. I would be very grateful for any information -Please reply to: tunzabeads@yahoo.com. Thank you - DH
